Entrepreneurial Jedi Master – Written by Doug Neal

The last two days we were fortunate enough to have Steve Blank spend time with us at the University of Michigan’s Center for Entrepreneurship.  During those two 12-hour days we packed Steve’s schedule with meetings, presentations, reviews, office hours and opportunities to meet with as many of our entrepreneurial community as possible (without killing Steve).

The reason for this is that Steve is a true Entrepreneurial Jedi Master.  He has spent many years perfecting his use of the entrepreneurial force, conquering evil and (most importantly) has perfected the Jedi Mind trick.

I’m serious.

Steve has this amazing ability to tell people what they need to know regarding perfecting the art of entrepreneurship (or should I say the “science”) and they instantly get it.  No argument, no questions.  They simply get it.

This is incredibly important as many people don’t realize how far we have come from the old world ways (circa 1990’s) of entrepreneurship and the techniques and processes being developed to perfect the art of entrepreneurship and move it closer to a real science.

Are we finally there?  I don’t know.  I think we are getting closer but there is still so much more that needs to be explored and understood.

As Steve said yesterday “We can teach entrepreneurship like we can teach art”.  How about that for underscoring where we are currently.  And how different does that describe entrepreneurship from where it has been traditionally taught (business schools).
